Blue-green infrastructure for the city and Campus Charlottenburg as an area in transformation !<\/p>\n

In the real-world lab structural and operational measures for climate protection and climate adaptation are being implemented in the existing buildings of the TU Berlin. Rainwater is harvested from the roof and retained in cisterns, while green facades and evaporation beds are being developed as structures of the sponge city Berlin and demonstrated in terms of their functionality and effectiveness. The central concern of the emerging real-world lab is to develop and communicate the effectiveness of natural and technical measures, to inform the urban community, and to foster co-creation and\/or participation.<\/p>\n

Research infrastructure is generated, buildings and open spaces serving as teaching and learning locations. TU Berlin`s research\u00a0 departments are involved in the design, implementation, and operation and can integrate research and teaching. City administrators, the real estate industry, interested professionals, and even laypeople can experience firsthand how existing buildings and neighborhoods can be transformed to be climate-friendly: Rainwater is actively managed locally, green buildings and sponge-neighborhoods reduce the pressure on Berlin’s sewer system and waterways.<\/p>\n

The use of photovoltaics on roof surfaces generates renewable energy in the existing building, reducing the building’s net energy requirement. The storage and irrigation systems required for fa\u00e7ade greening and evaporation beds\/mini swamps, such as pumps, valves, control electronics, and sensors, are supplied with renewable energy by the photovoltaics on the building. Productive blue-green infrastructure and spaces for biodiversity development transform the building and the neighborhood. Design and structure of the real-world lab are based on research results, experiences from the Vertical Green 2.0<\/a> and BlueGreenStreets<\/a> research projects.<\/p>\n

It can be assumed that context-specific knowledge, social and technological innovations can be transferred to other locations in the Charlottenburg Campus transformation area. The results of the ClimateHOOD_CampusPARK Charlottenburg project are also being incorporated into the development of the \u201cSchwammstadt Nordcampus: Climate-Energy-Water\u201d real-world lab.<\/p>\n

The project is funded by the Berlin Program for Sustainable Development (BENE 2) with funds from the European Regional Development Fund and the State of Berlin. Title: Green infrastructures for the city of the future \u2013 a demonstration project (project duration: 09\/2024 to 12\/2026).<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>
