The call for proposals “Real-World Labs: Creating Value Through Innovation in Neighborhoods” from the Berlin Senate Department for Economics, Energy, and Public Enterprises (SenWiEnBe) has been published. The call seeks innovative “Made in Berlin” solutions that are particularly well-suited to be tested in an inclusive and systemic manner at the neighborhood level as responses to societal challenges. At the same time, the proposed solutions should have the potential to be scaled up to other urban areas if testing is successful and, in principle, offer broad prospects for implementation for the participating stakeholders and the City of Berlin.
Project proposals may be submitted in the following five thematic areas:
Thematic Area A: Climate-friendly design of energy supply (especially heating) and water management,
Thematic Area B: Mobility and logistics (including micrologistics),
Thematic Area C: Organization of climate-neutral material cycles and supply chains,
Thematic Area D: Optimization of land use (multifunctional use),
Thematic Area E: Soft infrastructure (especially safety and health).
The process is structured in two stages. During the 6-month concept phase, a maximum of €100,000 per consortium is available; the implementation phase is eligible for funding of up to three million euros.
