On January 18, 2024, the first joint workshop between StadtManufaktur Berlin and the B!NErLE department—Education for Sustainable Nutrition and Food Science—took place.

This marks the official launch of the joint project REALLABOR ESSBARER CAMPUS!

In addition to keynote presentations on topics related to urban farming—and in particular, building-integrated lightweight agriculture using aquaponics and hydroponics—participants discussed topics related to circular and edible urban and campus design. A hydroponic planting table was set up for the pre-cultivation of young plants such as herbs, chili peppers, Swiss chard, and lettuce. These will soon be grown in hydroponic planting towers. The first HydroTower—a TU Berlin startup and spin-off of the GartenLeistungen research project, in collaboration with the Mobile Blue-Green Infrastructure Real-World Lab and the Roof Water-Farm Real-World Lab—is already set up in the teaching kitchen at FG B!NErLE.
