Real-world labs are designed to test, implement, and document innovations under real-world conditions. Does this also work in actual planning and construction practice? And if so, how? Together with the Federal Foundation Bauakademie (BSBA), the Natural Building Lab at TU Berlin investigated this question.
How can real-world labs be leveraged as tools for transformation in the planning and construction industries? A discussion on this topic will take place at the Bauakademie Berlin on March 21, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
On March 6, 2024, the MensaFarm was set up in the cafenero at the University Library of TU Berlin and the Berlin University of the Arts and freshly planted for spring. Our “Edible Campus” Real-World Lab is taking shape!
On March 19, 2024, StadtManufaktur at the Science & Society Office will host a Walk & Talk campus tour from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with key representatives from the Federal Ministry for the Environment (BMUV) and the Federal Environment Agency (UBA).
On January 18, 2024, the first joint workshop between StadtManufaktur Berlin and the B!NErLE Department—Education for Sustainable Nutrition and Food Science—took place. This marks the official launch of the joint project “Edible Campus” Real-World Lab!
The annual conference of the Network for Real-World Labs will take place in Dresden on April 11 and 12, 2024. The conference will address conceptual, methodological, and practical issues related to research and design in real-world laboratories. It aims to foster dialogue between researchers and practitioners, change agents, and urban and regional developers, and will facilitate an exchange of perspectives and experiences from both research and practice. The call for abstracts is open until December 10, 2023.
On November 15, 2023, we held our first workshop for the participatory further development of the digital data table with approximately 30 colleagues from various departments and disciplines at TU Berlin and the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district. The data table is being further developed as a web-based participation and scenario-planning tool within the ClimateHOOD_CampusPARK_Charlottenburg project.

The CityLAB 2023 Summer School will take place this year from September 11 to September 22 at the Kiezlabor and on the premises of CityLAB and HTW, which are jointly organizing the event. Under the motto “Prototyping for a Healthy City,” students will develop technology-based solutions using appropriate software and hardware.
